Odds & Ends

So it's another end to another school year. I've been terrible at keeping up my posts on all my new artwork, but I'll be trying to take pictures and scans of everything I can think of so please be patient with me! ^^;; it's been a very busy year. and i fear this summer will be even busier, or at least i hope it will be.

so anyways, I'll be participating in this exciting new art exhibit called the sketchbook project. And my theme is heroes & villains. I'm contemplating what i should draw on the cover of it, but i've got some ideas. So i'll be trying to keep up my posts on that project. :D Anyone can join, it's ony $25, but i'm planning on kicking mad butt with this. I discovered the project through an artist that really inspires me, personally, Alina Chau. a piece illustrating a poem by E. E. Cummings:

this was a 30"x40" piece that was illustrating the a childhood memory. did you ever swing on a swing set during recess and swung so high, jumped off at the very peak of your arc, flew at least 20 ft into the air only to land on your bottom in the middle of the sand pit, even when you know it'll hurt more than you remember but you do it anyway. yup, that's what this is about. :]

these 3 pieces are part of a tryptic that is illustrating the word "CRASH". i wanted to mix a little bit of fantasy/sci-fi in here so i made a hint of a faster, better way of transportation that is way cooler than traveling by automobile, DRAGONS. :] yeah. i don't know. it seemed like a good idea at the time. the first panel done in gouache, the second panel all in watercolor and the third bottom one done in a mixture of watercolor, gouache, and caran d'ache crayons.

and last but not least is my final illustration for pratt's illustration class being a linoleum cut print i did of an indian girl and her spirit friends. this is my first print of it. the highlights were a bit off and i feel like i went a little dark on the shadows on the face, making it look more like a beard than above lighting. oh well. wanna make more prints of these in the future though. i wish i had a real printing press at my disposal. but alas, i am stuck transferring them by hand. . . with a spoon. :'( boohoo.

but anyhoots, much more to come soon, along w/ new sketchbook pages, hopefully and other more awesome paintings & stuff. :D
